Thanks to Danny Sanchez for this little reminder that journalism is, in many cases, a matter of life and death. The BBC, he notes, will today “begin shining a beam of light into the sky each night to remember journalists who have died to inform people and give a voice to the voiceless.” Watch the dedication ceremony here.

For years, I read Clines’ little time capsule tributes to life in New York City, and every now and then a little snippet of one flashes into my mind. Today, I saw a couple jogging and remembered Clines overhearing one city runner turning breathlessly to a partner and asking, “Where are you, heartwise?”
